What to do in Lierna, a relaxing day on Lake Como
The small town of Lierna is located on the eastern shore of the "Lario", halfway between the more famous Mandello del Lario and Varenna.
This village is not so well known to the tourist crowds yet, and this makes it the perfect destination for a quiet trip out of town in the open air, where you can relax and spend some quality time.

You can reach Lierna by car, driving along the road SP 72 that runs along the lake, or by a local train on the Lecco-Sondrio line.
Once you arrive in the central square of the town, you can start your exploration from a pleasant lakeside walk, towards the marina area, where you will find a series of interesting explanatory panels about the boats, the history and traditions of the lake.
The village is famous above all for its white stone beach, spacious and a few steps from the center, called Riva Bianca, that is the ideal place to sunbathe and dive in the waters of the lake. To get there, you just have to walk north from the village center. You will have to walk for few minutes along the road without the sidewalk, but the route also runs along beautiful villas overlooking the lake.
From relaxation to trekking: the mountains in the background of Lierna are in fact crossed by the famous Sentiero del Viandante which can be taken in the direction of Colico or in the direction of Lecco. We suggest you take the path the connects Lierna to Varenna, that is moderately demanding but it is absolutely worth it.
Do not miss a quiet tour through the ancient alleys of the town with a medieval atmosphere, up to the Castle area, where there are the ruins of an ancient Lombard fortress for a long time home of Queen Teodolinda, now incorporated into some residential buildings.
