Hiking to Camaggiore - a panoramic view on Lake Como
In this article we will write about the simple yet scenographic hiking to Alpe Camaggiore: once you arrive at its little church, you can enjoy a magnificent view on Lake Como. And getting there is very easy. You only have to reach a parking lot with your car and then walk for a few hundred metres.
If you arrive from the SS36, at the highway exit you can take the road that leads to Valsassina and continue towards Vendrogno and then Sanico. Alternatively you can also go up from the town of Bellano following the same directions. The last available car park is located in the woods, after which an agricultural path begins which can only be accessed by car after purchasing a permit, but we do not advise you to buy one as the walk to Camaggiore from the car park only takes about fifteen minutes, so leave your car here (daily parking costs 3 euros) and set off on foot.
The route is also well signposted, so you will find your way without difficulty. The path is flat with some panoramic views every now and then, a small taste of what awaits you at your destination.
A beautiful carved wooden sign will welcome you to Camaggiore. You can decide to walk through the alleys of the small village to reach the most panoramic spot, the little church, or continue straight along the road from which you arrived. Once you reach the church, you will see a breathtaking panorama.
Unfortunately, during our trip there was a lot of fog and we couldn't fully enjoy the view, but even among the clouds the charm of this place is undeniable.
Continuing on the main road you will find signs for the dairy where in summer you can buy alp cheese produced by the shepherds. Going in the direction of the refuge, you will see in front of you Mount Legnoncino and the peak of Mount Legnone which, with its 2609 meters, dominates the panorama. Various paths then begin from here if you want to walk more, for example in about two hours you can reach Alpe Giumello.
Some useful information: we recommend wearing comfortable but not necessarily technical shoes, it is a wide and dirt track. There are sources of water but it is always recommended to have a small personal supply especially in the hot summer months. There is a nice picnic area for your packed lunch, with a small playground for children, but there is also a shelter. Camaggiore is the ideal family hiking for an escape from the city, a simple walk to get away from everything and enjoy the uncontaminated nature on Lake Como.
