Easter holidays on Lake Como - ideas for outdoor walks
The Easter holidays are the perfect moment to enjoy pleasant outdoor walks. If you choose the eatern side of Lake Como for the upcoming festivities, we suggest you go on reading this article because we will give you some interesting ideas for more or less demanding trips both in the Lecco area and in the upper Lario.
Let's start from the southern end of the lake. For lovers of walking in the city, a simple but regenerating tour from the Lecco lakeside to the ancient village of Pescarenico could be a perfect fit. In fact, Lecco offers a long walk that runs along the lake with a nice view of the surrounding mountains. Once you reach the floating platform and the Monument dedicated to the casualties of World War I, you can proceed towards the Pescarenico district. After crossing two bridges - the so-called "new bridge" and "old bridge" - you reach an intricate set of alleys that surround the central Piazza Era. In this ancient fishing village, you can still observe the "Lucie", typical boats of Lake Como, and breathe the meadieval atmosphere almost everywhere.
If you prefer to go for an excursion in the mountains, without however leaving the city of Lecco, we recommend a trip to the small church of Monte San Martino starting from the Rancio district. This hike is quite demanding but certainly satisfying for the wonderful view it offers.
Another excursion in the surroundings of Lecco is the one to the Abbey of San Pietro al Monte, going up from the town of Civate. The perfect trip for the Easter weekend, both because it is suitable for the whole family and because when you arrive there you can have a good picnic in the large panoramic lawn in front of the Abbey. Don't forget to respect the sacredness of the place and the environment.
Moving along the lake towards the north, another perfect idea for a trip with family and friends is the walk to the Cenghen waterfall, in the town of Abbadia Lariana. What's more beautiful than enjoying a packed lunch with the fragrant roar of the water in the background?
The next two excursions can be undertaken by going up from the town of Bellano and crossing Valsassina. We are talking about Alpe Camaggiore and Alpe Giumello. Both offer the possibility of walking along many paths, more or less demanding, and an incredible view of Lake Como.
In particular, in Camaggiore we suggest you reach the small church and in Giumello the giant bench: these are two spots with absolutely breathtaking views.
Going up the lake, you could consider a trip that combines the beauty of a medieval village and a short but steep excursion into the history of the First World War. We are talking about Corenno Plinio and the hike to its "Sasso", where you can see trenches and machine gun positions belonging to the "Cadorna Line".
We have now reached the northern end of the Lario. There are many walks and trips you could do in the Colico area, but in this article we want to mention one that is perfect for Easter Sunday or Easter Monday, which will occupy the whole day. If you want to combine nature and culture, you could in fact consider the "Anello dei Forti", a path that connects Forte Montecchio Nord and Forte Fuentes, which you can visit as they are also open on these holidays (if you intend to see them both, we recommend you purchase a cumulative ticket).
Start your adventure by visiting Forte Montecchio in the morning, and then walk through the path, which starts just below the car park of this first museum. Following the well-marked route, in about 40 minutes you will reach Forte Fuentes where you can stop for a packed lunch break at the tables in the ticket office area, before enjoying the charm of this seventeenth-century fortress.
Through the suggestions mentioned in the article, we hope to have provided you with interesting ideas for outdoor walks that will help you work off the chocolate from your Easter eggs and cheerfully spend these holidays on Lake Como.
