The Cenghen waterfall

If you want to take an original hike, the Cenghen waterfall is what you are looking for. In fact, on the eastern branch of Lake Como, in the village of Abbadia Lariana, there is a spectacular waterfall that is 50 meters high and it is hidden in the woods.

Getting to the waterfall is pretty easy. If you arrive with your car, you can park in the little village of Linzanico from where the path starts, or if you catch the train you can easily get off at the Abbadia Lariana railway station and start your walk from there, with slightly longer times. In fact, from the station you will have to take via Onedo until you reach the entrance to the Sentiero del Viandante, then continuing along the route until you find the signs for the Cenghen waterfall. From Linzanico you can take the path that starts next to the washhouse, it will take about an hour on a nice mule track that will let you enjoy spectacular views of Lake Como. Along the path you will often come out of the woods and find yourself on natural balconies overlooking the lake, and you will also cross picturesque olive groves. Although the trail is suitable for everyone, including children, we recommend wearing appropriate shoes as you can easily encounter mud, roots and rocks on the ground. The walk is simple with a difference in height of 340 metres. The route is well signposted and you will have no difficulty in finding the waterfall. When you are about to reach your destination, you will hear the constant sound of the water. Once out of the woods you will find yourself in front of a surprising sight, a wall of cracked rock inside which the Cenghen waterfall flows. At its feet a pool of natural water has formed, which it is also possible to enter, bearing in mind the risks that you could face. In fact, small rocks could fall from the top of the waterfall. We therefore recommend that you enjoy the show and at the very least cool off your feet immersing them on the shore.

The Cenghen waterfall is an ideal destination for those who want to escape from the bustle of the city and enjoy a day in nature, where you can have a packed lunch in front of the waterfall and relax with the sound of its flowing waters. Please remember that upon arrival there are no bars or refreshment points, so make sure you bring what you need to spend a nice day.
