A stroll in Lecco
If you have the opportunity to visit Lecco, you can't miss a nice stroll along the lakefront, where you can admire a beautiful scenery for some kilometres. The snow-capped peaks in the background in winter, the shining blue water on sunny summer days, the blooming trees in spring and the yellowish leaves lying on the pebbles in autumn, make the Lecco lakefront fascinating in every season of the year. Our stroll along the lakefront winds between the two floating platforms located at its ends. Near the "Monumento ai Caduti", a majestic statue created by Giannino Castiglioni to commemorate the soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the defense of the homeland, there is a large platform which enters the lake and sways thanks to the movement of the water. Well, it's not ideal for those who suffer from seasickness, but the view from here is absolutely spectacular.
Proceeding, as the gravel on the ground gradually turns into cobblestones, the lakefront becomes a large tree-lined avenue with plenty of benches. Along the walk, where there are some boats lying on the shore and others moored in the water, you often have the opportunity to meet some lake inhabitants: you can "spoil" ducks and swans with a little dry bread and make them the protagonists of your photos! A little further on there is the Imbarcadero, the departure point for ferries that connect Lecco to the other lakeside villages. In this area, tourist totems have been located and they are aimed at providing the visitor with interesting information on Lecco and the other villages of the "Lario". Then, our stroll along the lake brings us face to face with the "Dalia", a boat that locals know very well because it has been standing there for many years, unused first, then used as a bar and location for events. As we go on, where the walk widens into a sort of large square at the monument to the "Fratelli Caduti del Mare", something very curious emerges from the middle of the lake. It is a golden statue depicting San Nicolò, patron saint of the city.
Placed in the water in 1955 in the most exposed area of the lakefront known as "Punta della Maddalena", San Nicolò is represented in the gesture of protecting the city, its inhabitants and the lake. A little further on, passing the playground equipped with trampolines for children, a large stairway in the Malpensata area gradually descends towards the lake offering access to the second, but definitely smaller platform. Here your walk can end, in front of a natural landscape of a remarkable beauty.
Make sure to include this relaxing walk in your itinerary while visiting Lecco.
